Equity Life Assurance Kenya Limited (ELAK) was named Best Insurance Company in Enterprise Risk and Resilience at the 16th Think Business Insurance Awards held in Nairobi, recognised for the strength of its risk culture, capital base and operational continuity. The award recognised ELAK’s ability to anticipate emerging risks while maintaining uninterrupted service delivery during periods of disruption.
Equity Bancassurance Intermediary Limited (EBIL) also delivered a strong performance, winning the Risk Management Bancassurance Intermediary and Best Bancassurance Intermediary in Life Products awards
EBIL emerged first in Risk Management Bancassurance Intermediary category and Best Bancassurance Intermediary in Life Products. EBIL also delivered a strong performance, winning the Risk Management Bancassurance Intermediary and Best Bancassurance Intermediary in Life Products awards
The Risk Management award recognised EBIL’s robust frameworks for identifying, monitoring and mitigating risk while strengthening operational stability and stakeholder confidence. Best Bancassurance Intermediary in Life Products recognised the company’s sustained growth in life insurance premiums through the banking channel, supported by innovative products and high-quality customer service.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Angela Okinda, Managing Director and Principal Officer of Equity Life Assurance (Kenya) Limited, attributed the wins to Equity listening and responding closely to its customers’ needs, and thanked them for their continued trust and partnership.
“These awards celebrate the significant progress we have made in product innovation, digital enablement, technology, and brand development. Our solutions are designed to make insurance accessible and affordable for every Kenyan, regardless of financial capacity. By financing the full cost of insurance upfront and allowing customers to pay in affordable instalments, we are removing barriers to access and expanding the utility of insurance solutions,” said Okinda.
In addition to these wins, ELAK and EBIL were recognised as 2nd runners-up in four further categories:
The recognition for Equity Health Insurance in the Medical Underwriter of the Year, Personal category was particularly significant, Okinda noted, pointing to a deliberate redesign of the company’s health offering around customer needs.
The award recognized the company’s best new product, designed to meet the health needs of individuals and small businesses. The recognition reflects Equity’s commitment to listening to customers and continuously redesigning its solutions to address their evolving healthcare needs. By offering health insurance alongside its life and general insurance solutions, Equity is strengthening the resilience of its customers while supporting health as a key pillar of personal well-being, productivity, and national development.
Looking further ahead, Equity anticipates a steady pipeline of new offerings through the rest of 2026, building on solutions already rolled out this year in direct response to customer feedback. The focus going forward is on deepening digital enablement, allowing customers to access and manage insurance solutions remotely and on their own schedule, alongside an expanded product range and broader partnerships.
The 2026 Think Business Insurance Awards, themed “Risk, Resilience and Renewal: Innovating Insurance for Tomorrow’s Kenya,” highlighted the sector’s push to anticipate emerging risks, build institutional resilience and drive product innovation that meets the needs of a changing Kenyan market.
